Dean
Ray Koontz is an accomplished writer whose books and novels
have been published in 38 languages. He has written several
#1 New York Times bestsellers, and we await more! Over 175 million
copies of Koontz books have been sold.
Dean was born in Pennsylvania and like many of his characters,
had a troubled childhood. His father was an abusive alcoholic
and his mother was often ill. Dean overcame many obstacles to
become the wonderful and admired author that he is. He sold
original short fiction stories to friends and family at the
young age of eight, and look at him now!
When Dean was in college he won a fiction writing competition,
and has continued to write. Dean has always had a love for writing,
although it wasn't always his main source of income. Before
he was a writer Dean had several other jobs. He has been an
English teacher and a youth counselor for underprivileged kids.
Dean married in 1966 and when his wife, Gerda, offered to support
him for five years to get his writing career going, he took
her up on the generous offer. Thank you Gerda!!! The rest is
history, Dean is now a successful author and today he lives
in Southern California with Gerda and their golden retriever
Trixie. (Trixie appears in the picture with Dean on the back
of False Memories. She was trained as a service dog for the
wheelchair-bound, but Dean and Gerda adopted her after she developed
a leg problem and was relieved of her official duties.)
