Pen NamesDean Koontz Pen Names

Dean has written many books under pseudonyms, or "pen-names" over the years. When asked in interviews why he has written under these names, he explained that he had the desire to write in multiple genres, but publishers felt that writing in more than one genre would confuse book buyers, so for marketing purposes they pushed him into multiple names.

Sometimes Dean writes briefly in the end of a reprinted edition about what happened to the original author name for that book. These are amusing tales, so next time you pick up an older Koontz Book, check it out, it may have originally been published in the 70's under one of these names:

You may have heard of a "secret" pen name that was recently discovered. It was previously listed on this site. However, a Another fan of Koontz web site owner has expressed to me their feeling that because Dean has said in the past that he does not want this pen name known, I should not be leaving it here for public viewing. I agree, and so I have removed it from this list, out of respect to Dean.
